Making waves abroad
Here at Mobile World Congress 2018, the 4-day conference focuses not just on the latest phones and mobile innovations, they also give honor to those who create apps and products that help society. Such is the case for Smart’s Batingaw app which earned a nomination at the 2018 Global Mobile (GLOMO) Awards under the Best Mobile Innovation-Supporting Emergency or Humanitarian Situations.
Though Smart was not able to bag the award, the fact that they were nominated by an international award-giving body such as the GLOMO Awards is a recognition by itself.
For those not familiar with the app, Batingaw was made in partnership with Smart and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRMMC) back in 2014. The app aims to make the public aware of disaster risk reduction through electronic resources containing pertinent emergency numbers and user-generated content in sharing and updating on any natural and man-made hazards. Given its main function, Batingaw is used for issuing public advisories, and for disaster mapping.
Good job to Smart and NDRMMC for the recognition they have received for the Batingaw app.
