Apple’s iPhone X Is Their Most Insane One Yet

This is the best iPhone they’ve ever made

Aside from the usual iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, Apple also unveiled the iPhone X. Cook describes the iPhone X as the biggest leap forward for the brand, and is the company’s first edge-to-edge device to go up against the offerings of chief rival Samsung.

The phone uses the same metal and glass combo as the two earlier iPhones, and has the same water-resistance level to keep things nice and protected from the elements. The edge-to-edge display is dubbed the Super Retina display, measuring at 5.8-inches with 2436 x 1125 resolution, which comes out to 458PPI. The display uses OLED tech, a first for an iPhone. The display is also Dolby Vision and HDR10 compliant, and Apple says that the phone has better color accuracy compared to OLED displays in the past.

Without a home button, Apple had to great creative to keep the phone secure. To quickly unlock the iPhone X, the company uses a new FaceID system, which is composed of a infrared camera and other bits and bobs that recognizes your unique facial structure to unlock the device. It’s quite a different tact for facial recognition compared to their competitors, which is only made possible via their A11 chip and the neural engine embedded inside.

The facial recognition software is good enough that it can recognize your face in all lighting conditions despite wearing eye wear, head wear or changes in facial hair. And just like Touch ID, FaceID will work with Apple pay, making payments for goods and services quick and easy.

Apple is also taking advantage of that advanced FaceID system that maps your entire face using flood illuminator and the IR camera by utilizing animated emojis that you can send to whoever you’re talking to.

Just like the iPhone 8 Plus, the iPhone X has dual cameras, sporting 12-megapixel sensors. The main camera has an f1/.8 aperture, while the secondary zoom sensor has an f/2.4 aperture. The cameras are paired with a quad LED flash, and just like Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8, the iPhone X’s dual rear cameras both have OIS built-in. The phone also has the same AR capabilities as the iPhone 8 Plus. The front camera also supports portrait mode, with the IR camera providing depth information for convincing selfies.

Apple says that the iPhone X has two hours more of usable battery life than the iPhone 7, and still has the same wireless charging capability as the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus.

Apple will be offering the iPhone X in two capacities: 64GB and 256GB. The iPhone X will retail for 999$ (50.9K) for the 64GB variant, with pre-orders starting on October 27. Devices will ship starting November 3.
