New cores are based on a 7nm process
To keep up with new CPU demands, ARM unveiled the 7nm-based Cortex-A76 CPU Core. The new CPU runs at 3.0Ghz and promises up to 35% better performance and 40% better power efficiency than the 10nm-based Cortex-A75 CPU core.
The new CPU core is claimed to be “laptop class”. Expect manufacturers to use at least two Cortex-A76 cores and several Cortex-A55 cores should they go for the big.LITTLE architecture for future processors.
Together with the Cortex A76, ARM unveiled the Mali-G76, which is a 7nm-based GPU that promises 50% better performance and 30% better energy efficiency compared to the Mali-G75. Aside from the Mali-G76, ARM unveiled the Mali-V76 video processor. The video processor is capable of decoding 8K video at 60FPS and 4k video at 120FPS and can encode 8K video at 3oFPS.
