Huawei Going Edge-to-Edge and 18:9 with the Mate 10

Another Device Set to Go 18:9

The LG G6, the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+, and the rumored device that Sony is unveiling at IFA will have more company — in terms of displays with an 18:9 aspect ratio — because it looks like Huawei is incorporating an edge-to-edge display on the upcoming Mate 10. Released early this year, the Huawei Mate 9 was one of our favorite big-screened devices; calling it: “The Best Big Phone That You Can Buy Today”. Expected to arrive sometime in October, the Mate 10 will be powered by a HiSilicon Kirin 970 chipset to push all the pixels on that 6-inch, 18:9 display that has a resolution of 2160×1080.

Given the dimensions of the Samsung Galaxy S8 devices, a 6-inch display at this aspect ratio could mean that the Mate 10 will be a lot narrower compared to its predecessor; that’s nothing concrete though since the LG G6 still has the usual ergonomics of your typical 16:9. Our source also speculates that the dual rear cameras may support 3D sensing technology, because the world is currently enthralled by tech’s biggest buzzwords: AR and VR.

That’s all we’ve uncovered about the Huawei Mate 10 for now. Do take this with a grain of salt, since nothing is truly final until a products release. We’re only a couple of months away though, so expect more tidbits about Huawei’s upcoming big-screened Mate series device.
