Apple Makes the iPhone 5S OFFICIAL

Alongside the iPhone 5C, Apple also announced the new iPhone 5S. This new device features a bunch of new cool functionalities and upgraded internals. Let’s quickly go over what makes this new iPhone so special!

Touch ID: Fingerprint Sensor

Say goodbye to swiping to unlock your smartphone! The home button of the iPhone 5S also is a fingerprint sensor. The metal ring will detect if your finger is on it and it will unlock the device if it matches the fingerprint you registered with it. It’s not just for unlocking though, you can actually use it to buy stuff from iTunes or the App store. No need to keep typing your password over and over again each time you’re buying apps. It’s not game-changing but it’s definitely innovative and Apple deserves props for this one.

A7 Chip with M7 Processor: Twice the Power

Two times faster processor and two times faster graphics. That’s what the A7 Chip brings to the table (as if the iPhone 5 wasn’t fast already). This new and improved chipset will let you smoothly play crazy graphics intensive apps and games. To make their point, Apple announced that the new Infinity Blade 3 will debut and the benchmark for good performance will be the iPhone 5S.

Other than performance, the new processor also makes the device more energy efficient. According to Apple you can have up to 10 hours of LTE browsing time with the iPhone 5S. If they live up to that claim then they’re golden since we barely get over 3-4 hours of LTE browsing with the current iPhone 5, lol.

Improved iSight Camera: New Features

Better camera FTW!
Better camera FTW!

There are two major upgrades for the iSight Camera. First we have the actual sensor. It has a 15% bigger sensor compared to the iPhone 5 which means it can take in more light (aperture of f/2.2) and this will help you get much better pictures in low light conditions (less noise, more detail).

After the sensor we have a bunch of new shooting modes which include: Continuous Burst, True Tone Flash (dual flash, lights up subject without over-saturating subject), Auto Image Stabilization, Slow Motion Video, Live Video Zoom, Square Photos (for Instagram? LOL), and Live Filters.

Comes with iOS 7 Out of the Box

iOS 7 FTW!
iOS 7 FTW!

Last but definitely not the least we have iOS 7. This new operating system will give users a brand new experience with their iPhones. It features a new design philosophy, added functionalities, and more features. The update will be free so people who own even the iPhone 4 (and up) can even get it when Apple releases the update via iTunes on September 18 (just a few days away folks).

Coming September 20 in Selected Countries, Most Likely December for the PH

Yay!
Yay!

The iPhone 5S will make landfall in Singapore, China, Tokyo, US, and other markets this coming September 20. Expect gray market units to start entering the country with very high prices a few days after the launch in SG and China. Apple also announced that over a hundred countries, which probably includes the Philippines, will get it on December.

We’ll secure a review unit ASAP for you guys!

PS: Here’s to hoping that Smart comes up with very good postpaid offers for the iPhone 5S.
