Taxi Hailing App MiCab to Launch in the Midst of Uber’s Suspension

An Alternative to Uber?

A Taxi hailing app called MiCab that originated from Cebu is coming to Manila in September. They recently signed an agreement with the Philippine National Taxi Operators (PNTOA), whose President, Atty. Bong Suntay, is a fierce critic of ride-sharing applications Uber and Grab. For the pricing, MiCab will have fixed pricing similar to how taxi hailing applications are done in Japan.

The timing is definitely in their favor as Uber would still be serving their 1-month suspension order. While it’s to the advantage of the business, it’s a potential source of relief for Filipino commuters who are stuck to hailing cabs in the street or our overcrowded MRT system.
