Uber Announces Suspension of Services in the Philippines

Well this sucks

Brace Yourself for Rude Taxi Drivers

Uber just tweeted earlier today that they are temporarily suspending their services in the Philippines. This is after the LTFRB announced that they are suspending Uber and all of the drivers of Uber for a month. This definitely sucks but the “good news” is that Grab still operates. We don’t think though that they have enough capacity to service the entire riding public.

So why the suspension? Apparently it’s because Uber continued to accept applications (but not process) of new Uber drivers when the LTFRB told them to stop last July 26. We can only assume that Grab wasn’t penalized because they complied with the order.

If you try to get an Uber, this is what you’ll see

It’s this writer’s opinion that the LTFRB should have just fined Uber heavily. A massive financial penalty that Uber will feel and not outright suspension. Instead of the previous 5M penalty, maybe fine them 50M or even 100M! By doing so they would be sending a strong message to Uber and Grab. Stopping Uber drivers from doing their jobs puts the commuting public at a disadvantage and at the mercy of Taxi drivers who refuse rides.

How about you guys? What do you think the LTFRB should have done? Let us know in the comments section below.
