Facebook, Instagram Reduces Streaming Bitrate In The Philippines


All to save bandwidth

With the enhanced community quarantine getting extended, it’s becoming more important than ever before to reduce the strain on mobile networks as everyone works and studies from home. Facebook is the latest company to heed the calls of the Department of Information and Communications Technology to save bandwidth and will be temporarily reducing bitrates during the ECQ.

The social media giant will be reducing video streaming bitrate on both their platform and Instagram during the duration of the ECQ, joining other global giants in saving bandwidth to reduce the strain on networks during the pandemic.

The company also said that they working closely with mobile operators in the Philippines to manage any bandwidth constraints during the crisis.

Other companies like NetFlix, Google, and iFlix have already taken similar measures to reduce the bitrate of their apps as well.
