We only have a little bit to go on in terms of design, but we do know that the dimension of the two will be exactly the same, 153.8 x 75.5 x 7.6mm. We can expect the Vivo V5 Plus to have the metal build as the V5 with the buttons and ports in the same location as well. It seems that the back of the Vivo V5 Plus has been given a bit a hint of Apple’s design with the antenna bands laid out similarly to the iPhone 7. The main difference with the Vivo V5 Plus and the V5’s appearance are the front cameras with the V5 Plus sporting dual front selfie shooters.

Under the hood, we can see that Vivo has gone with a Snapdragon 625 giving it an edge in processing power; both have an equal amount of RAM at 4GB but, again, the V5 Plus edges out the V5 in storage by doubling its capacity. The V5 Plus also gets a bit of an advantage in terms of its battery, but the difference is negligible.

It’s time to take a closer look at the cameras on these selfie-centric smartphones. Let’s start off with the rear cameras though. The Vivo V5 has a 13-megapixel rear shooter with phase detection autofocus and an LED flash, while the Vivo V5 Plus has 16-megapixels. It wasn’t specified if the V5 Plus was getting more improvements to its rear shooter, but we can at least assume that it’s getting PDAF as well.

In terms of its front shooters, the V5 has a very capable 20-megapixel selfie camera with soft lighting for great selfies in less than ideal situations. We already know that the Vivo V5 Plus will outperform the V5’s selfie camera thanks to its 20-megapixel and 8-megapixel secondary camera. Expect to be able to add on some really smooth bokeh to your selfies, which means you won’t have to worry too much about photobombers.

That’s pretty much it for this head-to-head between the Vivo V5 Plus and the Vivo V5. The official launch of the V5 Plus is this Saturday, January 21, and we’ll be giving you its local pricing by then; the price revealed by Malaysian retailer, Direct D, had it at RM 1799 or Php 20,149. The Vivo V5 has an official price tag of Php 12,990.

Stay tuned for the full review of the Vivo V5 Plus in the coming days.
