Lypertek Tevi TWS Earbuds Review: Justified Hype?

Lypertek Tevi TWS Earbuds Review: Justified Hype?

Review Verdict: The Lypertek Tevi shows that you can still get a good set of cans that have a decent soundstage and physical buttons over touch controls. Despite some app issues (that can be fixed with software updates down the line), the Lypertek Tevi is a good choice for anyone looking for a good pair of long-lasting TWS.

Pros

  • Feature-packed companion app
  • Stylish case with a huge battery
  • Small but powerful graphene drivers

Cons

  • Not the most ergonomic earbud design out there
  • Volume controls can be finicky

Lypertek may be a company you are not familiar with, but the small Chinese tech company is highly regarded for its audio products. Their Tevi TWS earbuds have earned praise from various reviewers for their stellar audio quality coming from its 6mm graphene drivers.

As the brand enters the Philippines via Digital Walker, I wanted to try them out and see if the hype was real. Is it really a great pair of buds or is it just all marketing? Let’s dive in:

Design

The Tevi uses the same oblong-shaped case as most of its competitors, though Lypertek used a hard-wearing fabric for the exterior. This allows the Tevi to look incredibly premium (it looks way better than your average TWS) while still being relatively durable and safe from day-to-day abuse. You even get a synthetic leather strap to use with it.

You get a black matte plastic in between the two fabric parts, and you have LED lights for battery level in the front and a USB-C port at the back.

Opening the case reveals the buds themselves, which take on a rather conventional form factor that has a chrome accent surrounding the physical buttons. You get Lypertek’s logo and branding on the buttons, along with LED indicator lights.

User Interface and Fit

Unlike most TWS earbuds, the Tevi uses Qualcomm’s True Wireless Plus. (TWS+), on top of aptX. This tech pairs the left and right buds individually to your device instead of appearing as one set–or also known as a master-slave approach.

This may be confusing for some users when setting them up, but once you pair either bud, the other bud will pair automatically. One of the benefits of this kind of approach includes better connection stability and lower latency.

The Lypertek companion app is one of the better TWS apps I have seen. Aside from the usual firmware upgrade and control mapping, the app also lets you adjust volume and further personalize the soundstage with its built-in equalizer. You can either choose between 8 presets or customize your own preferred soundstage.

While they are a bit on the bulky side because of their form factor, but otherwise they are light and comfortable to use even for long sessions. Since the physical buttons are placed dead center in the buds’ body, you will need to gently hold the buds when pressing the buttons to ensure they properly recognize the commands.

Despite having physical buttons, the Tevi has an IPx7 rating, making them also a great pair of TWS earbuds for workouts and long runs.

Audio Quality and Battery Life

Despite having a rather bulky appearance, the Tevi comes with 6mm graphene drivers, which are rather small. In Lypertek’s case, size does not matter as graphene has a great strength-to-weight ratio, making the drivers more efficient in delivering a broad soundstage.

Having a flexible soundstage is a big plus for any under Php 5k earbuds, as it lets you optimize the drivers to suit the type of music you are listening to. Having a companion app with a built-in equalizer makes the Tevi one of the most flexible TWS earbuds for its category. Listening to a variety of tracks ranging from hip-hop, rock, Kpop, to dance genres, the app’s equalizer does a great job in tweaking the drivers to suit the type of music I am listening to.

While the Tevi’s volume range is typical of budget TWS earbuds, adjusting the volume is not as smooth. Because of how they connect to your device, adjusting the volume through the physical buttons would sometimes result in uneven loudness, where one bud would sound louder than the other.

This can be remedied by remapping the controls through the app, though by doing this often you’re better off just adjusting the volume through your device until Lypertek rolls out an update addressing this.

Lypertek Tevi Review 6

As for battery life, Lypertek boldly claims that the Tevi can last for up to 70 hours with the charging case and up to 10 hours in one full use. I’m not surprised at those claims, as the case itself has an 800mAh battery inside.

That’s quite large considering most cases for TWS earbuds would only have around 400mAh (or 500mAh tops) inside the case. I have been using the Tevi for two weeks, and I have yet to charge the case since I got them.

Wrap Up and Conclusions

Our Lypertek Tevi Review Philippines shows that they are deserving of the hype and praise they got from other media outlets abroad. While the buds use a typical form factor and pack rather small 6mm drivers, their use of graphene—along with a feature-packed companion app that has a built-in equalizer—makes the Tevi one of the most flexible pair of TWS earbuds for under Php 5k.

The quirks with the volume controls can be ignored, especially since Lypertek does make an effort in rolling out updates to improve the Tevi (as of this writing, I got an update for the Tevi and it addressed some issues I had in pairing them to my device). If you listen to a variety of music and soundstage flexibility is a must, the Tevi is definitely for you.
