MMDA Re-opens the Dario Bridge U-turn Slot in EDSA

Motorists traveling via EDSA have probably been burdened by the closing of a lot of u-turn slots last September 2020. After a few months, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has observed that this caused more build-up of traffic. And so, the MMDA has re-opened one key u-turn slot in EDSA, the Dario Bridge u-turn slot.

MMDA Re-opens the Dario Bridge U-turn Slot in EDSA

According to MMDA Chairman Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr., the agency has decided to re-open the Dario Bridge u-turn slot in Quezon City yesterday.

“This would benefit the motorists because they can make a u-turn easily with a shorter route,” the chairman has said during the re-opening of the u-turn slot.

The u-turn slot was previously closed to motorists to give way to the EDSA bus carousel. However, upon observation, this led to more traffic build-up especially in Quezon City and Caloocan City as motorists had to find other routes to get to the other side.

The MMDA Chairman has revealed that this is not a permanent or long time solution to the traffic problem in EDSA. He is also coordinating with other government agencies on how to control the traffic problems that motorists are facing.

“The next big thing in the next two years is the widening of the Balintawak area, one of the traffic-prone areas, that would widen the area to five lanes. The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) shall work on the project for a period of one to two years,” Chairman Abalos has revealed.

In addition to this, the MMDA has also been asking for the cooperation of the private contractor working on the Common Station, a project of the Department of Transportation, that will connect the MRT and LRT, which is located between SM North EDSA and Trinoma.

“I have requested BF Corporation to move back their fences at their work area to open more lanes for passing motorists and filled it with gravel so traffic obstruction could be avoided,” added Abalos.

The MMDA chairman strongly believes that now is the best time to get a move on the infrastructure projects that aim to lessen traffic build-up in the Metro as the public is slowly returning to normal.
