Presidential bet Manny Pacquiao personally met with SpaceX executive Rebecca Hunter today in Manila.

Rebecca Hunter, SpaceX senior manager for Government Affairs, has already met Manny Pacquaio in a virtual meeting last January, together with Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III.

During the virtual meeting, Pacquiao told the company to consider the possibility of building a launchpad in the Philippines, particularly in Mindanao given its proximity to the equator. This, according to the Senator, will not only provide jobs to Filipino scientists, engineers, and laborers but also put the Philippines on the map of space exploration.

“The involvement of SpaceX in our country will not only bring in investments and jobs but will also put us at the forefront of space science, said Pacquiao.

In addition, Pacquiao also said he was looking at low orbit satellites in providing cheap internet in the Philippines if elected president.

“This technology provides various uses such as advancing online learning, e-government services, and disaster relief and coordination, as well as linking our OFWs to their loved ones. Our future needs this technology,” Pacquiao said.

Now, a few months after the virtual meeting, the presidential aspirant and the SpaceX executive have finally met in person. However, the details of the meeting are yet to be revealed.
