Google to Change PH Call Center Partner following Online Scam Incident

Google said that it is pulling out its outsourced work with Sykes in Cebu following reports of employees involved in an online scam.

In a statement sent to NewsbytesPh, a Google spokesperson said “We are constantly assessing our business needs and have decided to shift this business to another vendor in the Philippines.”

For those who do not know, the online scam involved three employees of Skyes siphoning off Php 60 million worth of Google online gift cards and converting the said funds into Bitcoin. The incident happened over a period of time, and it is only recently that Sykes found out about it.

“In the past few months, we learned that a small number of employees violated our standards of conduct. We took swift action on those employees in accordance with company policies,” Skyes said in a statement, adding that it denies rumors that 300 workers lost their jobs due to the incident.

“While there have been business changes that may have impacted some groups, we have ensured that all our hardworking employees are reassigned to other programs,” the company added.

While Sykes confirmed it has terminated the three employees involved, it has yet to disclose if it will file criminal charges.
