Portion of Central Luzon Link Expressway To Open This July

Good news for those who frequent the North. The Central Luzon Link Expressway (CLLEX) project of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will soon be open for motorists to use. Construction for the four-lane, 30-kilometer project linking the cities of Tarlac and Cabanatuan is at 94%, and is on track to be finished within this year.

DPWH Secretary Mark Villar has informed the public that they will be opening the first 18 kilometers of the CLLEX this July.

“From the connection of Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) and Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX) in Balingcanaway in Tarlac City, the contract packages covering Tarlac Section and Rio Chico River Bridge Section with a total length of 10.5 kilometers were fully completed while construction of the 9.2 kilometer-Aliaga Section is 87% finished,” he said.

Public Works and Highways Undersecretary for Unified Project Management Office Operations Emil Sadain has revealed that the CLLEX up to the intersection of Aliga-Guimba Road in Nueva Ecija was originally planned to be opened to the public in the second quarter of 2021, but was moved to July instead. This is due to work restrictions, such as suspensions issued for ongoing working contracts in accordance and compliance to construction safety guidelines set by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases Resolutions (IATF).

Other parts of the expressway continue to be in the works. Contract Package 4 (Cabanatuan Section) of the Central Luzon Link Expressway project is currently at an 88% completion rate, progressing in newly acquired areas. Contract Package 5, which involves the construction of the 113-meter Zaragoza Interchange Bridge, is currently at a 26% completion rate.

Upon full completion, the CLLEX will decrease travel time between Tarlac City and Cabanatuan City from the usual 70 minutes down to only 20 minutes.

The CLLEX will provide an efficient, fast, and reliable way of transport in Central Luzon. It will play an integral role as the east-west link of the expressway network in Region 3.
