President Duterte Inaugurates BGC-Ortigas Center Road Link

The long wait is over, the BGC-Kalayaan Viaduct is now open. This newly-opened via duct completes the entire BGC-Ortigas Center Link Road project which will effectively reduce travel time between BGC and Pasig City.

The new BGC-Kalayaan Viaduct, together with the entire 1.48km road project was inaugurated yesterday. President Rodrigo Duterte himself attended the ceremony along with the members of the Department of Public Works and Highway (DPWH), Pasig City LGU, and Taguig City LGU.

“This project marks another milestone in the government’s Build, Build, Build program and is vital in achieving a safe, time-efficient and fast travel among motorists in Metro Manila and nearby areas,” President Duterte said.

“We welcome this infrastructure development at a time when we are gradually recovering from the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Indeed, this achievement will provide substantial and long-lasting benefits to businesses, motorists and the public,” he added.

The new viaduct is the last and final piece of the already finished 4-lane Kalayaan Bridge. You may recall that the DPWH has already opened the first phase of the BGC-Ortigas Center Road Link last June 12, which is the Kalayaan Bridge that connects Sta. Monica in Pasig City and Kalayaan Avenue in Makati City.

DPWH Secretary Mark Villar expects that the new viaduct to reduce traffic congestion in both EDSA and C-5.

“With the opening of the entire BGC–Ortigas Road Link Project, we are seeing significant traffic decongestion, or as much as 20% traffic volume from nearby Epifanio delos Santos Avenue and C5 Road sections,” said DPWH Secretary Mark Villar.

Motorists traveling between Ortigas Center in Pasig City and Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Taguig can now enjoy a travel time of only 12 minutes.
