Giving the lowdown on why we should embrace Artificial Intelligence
With the 2018 Philippines Digital Convention ongoing, among its highlights include having Jason Silva as the keynote speaker. If you are not familiar with Silva, he’s an Emmy-nominated host for National Geographics’ Brain Games, along with being the brains behind the documentary Shots of Awe. Speaking of Artificial Intelligence, we got the chance to ask Silva if we should fear about the prevalence of AI with gadgets these days. Silva’s straightforward answer? That AI and human intelligence can complement one another.
“We’re combining our own innate biological intelligence with these non-biological “props”, and together we can do more,” he elaborates.
If that’s hard to digest, think of it this way: Human intelligence has its limits, and there are times that we can’t solve certain problems on our intelligence alone. Through using devices powered by AI, we can do things we never imagined. A perfect example would be how smartphones help you organize your day so that you will be on time for your meeting, or that you will not miss the next movie showing.
“These capacities will allow us to offer new features on how we live, and augment what we can do creatively in the world,” Silva said.
Other good examples include how an AI-powered home can prepare your room after a long day at work: By learning your habits and activities, AI will save you time and effort in doing some tasks so that you feel relaxed at home.
“What I see is more exciting applications that will optimize our capacity to be creative and efficient in the world,” Silva adds.
