SMC To Close Hillsborough Off-Ramp on April 19

SMC will permanently close the Hillsborough off-ramp starting April 19.  This is to fast-track the Southbound Skyway Extension Project, as San Miguel Corporation has just completed the opposite Northbouth Skyway Extension.

According to SMC, the opposing southbound ramp will advance and move at a faster pace so as to finish the project before the third quarter of this year. They have no choice but to close the Skyway’s Hillsborough southbound off-ramp, as this will serve as the staging area for the construction of the southbound section of the Skyway Extension. And just like when the Northbound was still under construction, heavy traffic is inevitable and utmost patience is necessary.

“Unfortunately, there is no way around it. We need to close this portion to secure the staging ground for equipment and workers and to accelerate construction and ensure the safety of our motorists.,” Ramon S. Ang, SMC President said. “We appeal to our motorists again for their patience and understanding. We expect heavy traffic to persist for the duration of the construction, but rest assured we will do everything we can to help mitigate this, and complete the project within the timetable,” he added.

While SMC will close be closing Hillsborough off-ramp, they are giving motorists the following alternative routes for Class 1 vehicles:

  1. For those coming from Pasay, Makati, Manila, and Quezon City bound for SLEX and farther south: From the elevated portion of Skyway, keep left to the steel ramp toward your destination
  2. For those coming from Pasay, Makati, Manila, and Quezon City bound for Alabang: From the elevated portion of Skyway, keep right to the Alabang-Zapote off-ramp

“We’re already seeing how convenient and much faster travel is now, and it will become even more evident when traffic volume picks up and starts to normalize. That is why we’d again like to ask for our motorists’ cooperation and understanding as we move toward the completion of the southbound Skyway Extension,” Ang further emphasized.
