The Moto G22 Has Just Been Leaked: Specifications, Pricing

The midrange phone segment is already intense as is, with competitors from Samsung, Xiaomi, and realme in pole position. Due to pricing constraints, phones in this category often have to go for one of two approaches: be decent at everything or be the best at a single category and make compromises on everything else. Regardless, this is one of the highest-volume selling segments for those who want some performance but aren’t willing to shell out flagship money – not when the average price of a flagship just a few years ago is now equivalent to a midrange device. Well, a new competitor is about to burst onto the scene: welcome the Moto G22.

Priced at 200 British Pounds according to this tweet, the Moto G22 competes in a very crowded space. The leaked specifications so far are a 6.5-inch IPS LCD 90Hz display with a resolution of 1600×720. We would’ve loved to see Full HD resolution here, which a number of people would set as the bare minimum for a device they would use in 2022. At the back is the triple-camera rear setup, equipped with an 8-megapixel Ultrawide camera that other manufacturers seem to miss out in this segment. We can speculate that a huge chunk of the budget went to this. The main shooter is at 50-megapixels, although we’ve gone beyond the point of using MP count as the basis for measuring camera performance.

The processor onboard is the Helio G37. It’s not capable of 5G but LTE speeds aren’t slow by any means. In a leaked Geekbench test, the Moto G22 scored 170 and 912 in the single/multi-core tests respectively. That puts it squarely in midrange territory, on par with 2017 flagship devices and the Moto G Power (2022) that it shares processors with. The smartphone is expected to come with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, which should be the minimum in 2022 except in extreme low-budget devices. Users can save more photos, videos, and content on the microSD slot should they feel the need to.

Other details include a 5,000 mAh battery, which adds to the total device weight of 185g. The device is expected to ship with Android 12 and come in 3 color options: White, Iceberg Blue, and Cosmic Black.
