It may be hard to believe, but the Noveto N1 unveiled at CES 2022 seeks to eliminate the hassle of wearing headphones altogether while delivering sound to the user. The device is Amazon Alexa-supported, but that’s likely not why you clicked on this link. Meet the N1, a device delivered with Noveto’s 45-patent sound beaming technology with the intent of revolutionizing how we listen to our everyday digital content.
The science behind the beaming tech, according to the official site, is that the N1 works using non-audible waves and beamforming. A built-in camera and processor work hand-in-hand to simulate the 3D space which you are in and aim to form a sound pocket of waves by your ears. The camera can also detect head movements to keep the sound pockets accurate in their position.
Then, their sound transducer creates and delivers the sound.
The team behind the Noveto N1 claims that people right beside you will only hear minimal leakage of approximately 10%. That is equivalent to a faint whisper, keeping the audio personal to you.
Connectivity features included are Bluetooth and a 3.5 mm headphone jack with support for USB-C. Their marketing team has released an array of use cases, such as peripheral-free fitness, video conferencing, gaming, and more.
What Hi-Fi quoted Noveto CEO and former Vice President of Logitech Christophe Ramstein in saying that the N1 is “like nothing we’ve seen before and has the potential to change how we work and live. Imagine the efficiency and comfort of private conversations with no devices on the body – we’re returning to a form of delightful, intuitive communication that currently doesn’t exist in our everyday lives with our devices.”
We’ll have to see whether the Noveto N1 lives up to the hype since this technology is still in its infancy. However, we’re glad to see that companies are pushing the envelope on what we perceive to be conventional.
