The Number Coding Scheme Is Back in Metro Manila

We already told you that the traffic in Metro Manila has returned to the pre-pandemic level. As a solution, MMDA proposed to Metro Manila Mayors to implement the number coding scheme once again.

According to Allan Gatus’ report on Super Radyo dzBB on Monday, the majority of National Capital Region (NCR) mayors have agreed to bring back the number coding scheme during afternoon rush hour, which is from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and from Monday to Friday.

The implementation of the new number coding scheme will begin two days after the resolution is published on the Official Gazette on Tuesday.

As promised, the number coding scheme will only cover private vehicles. Medical frontliners and Public Utility Vehicles (PUV) are still exempted. This is to give them consideration as they are playing important roles during these times of public health crisis. In addition, PUVs are still operating under limited passenger capacity.

The matter was decided by 17 mayors from 16 cities and 1 municipality in the National Capital Region (NCR) and it was presented to them by MMDA Chairman Benhur Abalos.
