With telco providers officially rolling out 5G networks in the Philippines for consumer use. Currently, we know that 5G can bring benefits like high download speeds and low latencies for better gaming experience. Beyond those two key benefits, Huawei Rotating Chairman Guo Ping said in the recently-concluded Better World Summit that there’s more to what 5G has to offer. One of these includes tools that researchers can use in combatting pandemics like COVID-19.

“By drawing on our experience in early hotspots, we developed nine scenario-based solutions that use ICT technology to help combat the pandemic,” Guo said. “We’ve been sharing our experience and capabilities to help control the spread of the virus and reopen economies.” Among these solutions is a COVID-19 detection tool that uses Huawei Cloud. 

Aside from being utilized as a research tool for understanding diseases, Guo adds that 5G business cases can be catered to suit connectivity, AI, cloud, computing, and industrial applications.

“We can mix and match them to create scenario-based solutions that meet the unique needs of our customers and partners. This is key to unlocking the full potential of 5G and driving commercial success.”
