1Q2018 Mid-Range Comparo: ASUS ZenFone Max Plus Vs. Cloudfone Next Infinity Quattro

Local brands have been stepping up their game in the past few months in order to stay competitive against foreign brands. A good example is Cloudfone with the Next Infinity Quattro. While their “flagship” phone offers decent specs, is it worth the 1K difference compared to its newest competitor in town—the ASUS ZenFone Max Plus? Let’s take a peek at their spec sheet:

Internals: A modern SoC an easy win for the Next Infinity Quattro

While both use MediaTek processors, the Next Infinity Quattro’s P25 processor is no question way better and much modern than the ZenFone Max Plus M1’s MT6750T processor. Not to mention the Next Infinity Quattro offers a bigger internal storage at 64GB compared to the ZenFone Max Plus’ 32GB.

Display: Full HD over a bigger display

While the Next Infinity Quattro has a bigger display, do note that it is only HD+, making the ZenFone Max Plus M1’s smaller display better since it is a Full HD+ panel.

Camera: Are quad cams really that good?

The Next Infinity Quattro’s four-cam setup may look like be superior to the ZenFone Max Plus’ setup, but do note that the latter has more megapixels for its dual rear cameras compared to the one used in the Next Infinity Quattro. As for image quality, we will have to put the ZenFone Max Plus to the wringer to see if it does shoot better images than the Next Infinity Quattro.

Battery: The ZenFone Max Plus’ battery makes a difference

Even with a newer processor, the Next Infinity Quattro’s PCMark battery test result yielded a lower score compared to what we got on the ZenFone Max Plus M1. Aside from the bigger battery on the ZenFone Max Plus, ASUS’ ZenUI is more optimized compared to Cloudfone’s UI, which should explain the synthetic benchmark results we got. Another advantage with the ZenFone Max Plus is that it has fast charging, which means you can top up faster than usual.

Verdict: Local brands can hold their fort well

In all fairness, the Next Infinity Quattro offers better specs compared to the ZenFone Max Plus in some aspects. As for pricing, we still think that Cloudfone priced the Next Infinity Quattro competitively against the likes of the ZenFone Max Plus M1.
