We recently had some time with the more affordable version of the ASUS Vivobook Pro 15 with the OLED display. Due to its price point, it comes equipped with a less powerful processor and a non-RTX GPU. It still was a joy to use despite these compromises though – and we’ll list down our favorite parts and why this could be your next purchase.

OLED Display Supremacy Makes For Great Netflix

The device has OLED plastered all over its marketing, and we now understand why. Opening up the laptop to its default wallpaper showcases the vividness of the colors all across the spectrum. Content viewed on the screen comes to life with plenty of brightness and sharpness to go around for an enjoyable experience. Poorly-lit scenes are made eerier due to the DisplayHDR TrueBlack technology embedded into the display, which will garner some screams on horror movie night. It definitely brings the best characteristics of OLED displays to mind.

We’re sure watching movies, TV shows, and videos, in general, is a real treat with the ASUS Vivobook Pro 15. For those who need it for editing or other media creation purposes, the Pantone validation assures you that you perceive the various hues across the spectrum as the creator intended; or from a creator’s side, delivered to the recipient exactly as you want it (if they have Pantone-validated screens as well). If your working hours are on the longer side, low blue light emissions are there to protect your vision from gradual degradation.

Build, Build, Build

Let’s get this out of the way: we would say that the laptop is built like a tank, but it’s too heavy for that. We’ll use an SR-71 Blackbird as a comparison. It’s sleek, light, but feels premium in the hand. Usually laptops that have undergone some cost-cutting measures slather the top part of the shell with premium materials, while the bottom of the laptop is a desolate wasteland of black plastics. That’s not the case here as both are done with metallic finish: reminiscent of devices at the higher end of the price bracket. Without a doubt, it feels more upscale than the vanilla Vivobook 15 we tested some time ago.

There are pros and cons to every scenario though; so if you really use this a laptop (on top of your lap), then expect to be playing some hot potato after intensive tasks. Leave it in a cold room for too long and it’ll be frigid to the touch. However, those are inherent material issues even mega-expensive laptops with metallic builds go through.

Stealthy Gamer

For some people, a new laptop can be a massive purchase that needs to be justified to the wife or the parents. The ASUS Vivobook Pro 15 OLED has all the makings of a grown-up’s choice. It doesn’t cost an arm and a leg, the design is simple yet elegant, there’s no RGB to be found anywhere, and the screen could open up avenues to creative gigs in the future. From some angles, it even gives off a tough utilitarian vibe. However, keep this on the down-low: it carries a GTX 1650 GPU. Keep in mind that just 2 years ago, this was the go-to graphics processor for budget gaming laptops. Even now, it’s still the top choice in the non-RTX arena.

Knowing this, it can run most modern games with ease at respectable graphics settings. Modest FPS numbers are easy to achieve with this as well. It’s a gaming laptop with an invisibility cloak, so lowkey that no one will be able to tell. If you bring this new acquisition back home, you’ll be met with satisfied faces of reason rather than an appalling look of disgust.

Look Mom, No Dongles!

Ever since laptops became thinner and lighter, manufacturers have deemed it appropriate to remove ports as a necessary sacrifice for the aesthetic. Users would then have to carry dongles everywhere they went. It’s an inconvenient hassle. Don’t worry about the ASUS Vivobook Pro 15 though, as you won’t need any of those. It comes with a bevy of ports: 3 USB Type-A, 1 USB Type-C, 3.5mm audio jack, full-size HDMI for easy presentations, and even a microSD card reader. Function definitely strikes a fair deal with form this time.

Battery Survivor

While it’s not a record-breaker, this laptop gets respectable time off the wall charger. That’s saying something due to its relatively powerful processor and gaming-designed GPU. In our testing, it reached 6 hours and 46 minutes of use on half brightness and volume while playing media nonstop. There’s a high probability that it would’ve lasted longer if the activities performed were just work or school-related document processing, internet browsing, and other less demanding activities.

This version of the ASUS Vivobook Pro 15 OLED comes in at Php 57,995. Even if it’s not the top of the line among its siblings, buyers definitely get the bang for their buck with an overall premium experience that might be hard to find elsewhere.
