ASUS MeMO Pad 7 ME176CX First Impressions: Ultimate Gaming Tablet for Cheap?

SAMSUNG CSC

Meet ASUS’ MeMO Pad 7 ME176CX!

Aside from the Zenfone 5, we also managed to snag ASUS’ latest tablet, the MeMO Pad 7 ME176CX. The ME176CX is the latest model in ASUS’ MeMO PAD 7 lineup, and sports Intel’s latest Bay Trail-T 64-bit quad-core Atom processor. Much like the Zenfone 5, the ME176CX is another market disruptor, as it’s able to deliver performance that you would normally associate with more expensive tablets.

ASUS MeMO Pad 7 ME176CX specs

Initial Impressions: Very affordable tablet with a monster AnTuTu score

The ME176CX didn’t really blow us away in terms of design when we first laid our eyes on it. Looking at it from the front, it kind of looks like your typical Android tablet, sporting big bezels that surround the 7-inch HD IPS display.

The back of the ME176CX is a bit better, and kind of resemble the design of the Zenfone 5 a bit. The sides of the ME176CX are contoured to allow you to get a nice, solid grip on it.

When you hold the ME176CX in portrait mode you’ll see the volume rocker and the power button on the right, while the 3.5mm jack and USB port are located on the top of the device.

Much like most of ASUS’ new offerings, the ME176CX sports their Zen UI overlay on top of Android. In the ME176CX’s case, it’s Android 4.4 KitKat.

While the ME176CX didn’t blow us away with its somewhat generic design, we were absolutely floored by its performance. In AnTuTu, it managed to score around 31294 points, which is crazy, considering just how much the device retails for. We’ve seen smartphones that are thrice the price of the ME176CX score far less than, which makes the tablet sort of a dark horse of gaming tablets.

To be sure that the ME176CX wasn’t pulling a fast one and posting inflated AnTuTu scores, we played a few rounds of Dead Trigger 2 and Batman Arkham Origins. Both games played very smoothly on high settings, without any lag whatsoever. We’ll be running a couple of other demanding Android games on this tablet as the review process goes on.
