ASUS ZenPower Ultra Hands-on, First Impressions: Massive Power

ASUS ZenPower Ultra 02

Yesterday we talked about ASUS’ ZenPower Ultra, their massive 20100mAh powerbank and today we finally got out hands on one. It’s truly one of the biggest powerbanks we’ve ever seen to date from ASUS, but its arrival couldn’t be more timely considering the official launch of Pokemon Go. It’s certainly should be on top of the list of every Pokemon trainer’s equipment list though right now we haven’t nailed down the pricing of the powerbank yet.

Initial Impressions: really massive powerbank, but the bulk is worth it

Because of sheer amount of mAh inside the ZenPower Ultra, we expected it to be huge, but we didnt expect it to be this huge. At 175mm or almost 7-inches, the ZenPower Ultra is rather big and unweildy. To put it in context, it’s almost as big as two regular ZenPowers stacked on top of each other.

As big and unweildy as it is, the ZenPower Ultra does have a lot of juice inside of its machined aluminum body – 20,100mAh in fact. Both ports are Qualcomm QuickCharge 2.0 certified, so if you have phones that support the standard, they’ll be charging faster than normal. For people who want to know the nitty gritty, both outputs are rated at DC 5.1V/2.4A or 9.1V/2A or 12.1V/1.5A. Long pressing the power button will turn on the LED light.

Because of the huge battery, charging the powerbank is a concern. Charging times range from around 7.5 hours if you have a charger that’s capable of outputting 9V/2A, around 11 hours at 5V/2A and around 18 hours 5V/1A. There’s a bunch of other technologies inside the powerbank as well. Here’s the full list:

The ZenPower will be available in three colors initially: white, black and hot pink, though no official price yet aside from the Php 2500 to Php 2700 range given to us by ASUS.
