The budget midrange segment is getting competitive this year, with the Infinix NOTE 50 Pro and TECNO Camon 40 Pro 5G being our top contenders right now. Both are priced close to each other, but which one should you go for?
Aside from our video above, let’s break down all the features the NOTE 50 Pro and CAMON 40 Pro 5G have to offer. Spoiler alert: it’s not a runaway victory for the CAMON 40 Pro 5G.
Design
While the CAMON 40 Pro 5G looks attractive with its color-changing back and curvy design, the NOTE 50 Pro feels more premium with its metal alloy frame and boxy build that reminds you of current flagship phones in the market. This also makes the NOTE 50 Pro heavier than the CAMON 40 Pro 5G.
Both come with stereo speakers and an IP rating, with the CAMON 40 Pro 5G having an IP68 rating and the NOTE 50 Pro having an IP64 rating. The NOTE 50 Pro adds RGB lighting on the back and a sensor for measuring heart rate and blood oxygen.
Display and Speakers
Both phones are technically on even ground with a 144hz AMOLED display that has a 6.78 inch size, but we prefer the flat design of the NOTE 50 Pro over the curved approach on the CAMON 40 Pro 5G. Infinix did not disclose the glass used on the NOTE 50 Pro, giving the CAMON 40 Pro 5G an advantage on paper with its use of Gorilla Glass 7i for better durability and a higher peak brightness of 1600nits.
In terms of audio, the stereo speakers on the NOTE 50 Pro is better than the CAMON 40 Pro 5G. Aside from boasting JBL tuning, the NOTE 50 Pro’s speakers maintain their audio quality even when we maxxed out the volume.
Cameras
Both have the same 50-megapixel main and 8-megapixel ultrawide setup, but differ with the sensor used for the main camera. The NOTE 50 Pro uses an ISOCELL GN5, while the CAMON 40 Pro uses a custom LYT-700C. Both have flagship-caliber imaging, and we’re happy with our experience with both phones in terms of photography.
It’s a different story when it comes to video, as the CAMON 40 Pro can shoot 4K video because of a better chip powering it. While the NOTE 50 Pro can only shoot up to 2k resolution, you can shoot in 60FPS mode for more fluid footage.
Internals and Battery
The CAMON 40 Pro 5G trumps over the NOTE 50 Pro in this department. Aside from being 5G ready, the Dimensity 7300 offers significantly better performance over the NOTE 50 Pro’s Helio G100. Both are on even ground with 256GB storage and 12GB RAM, though the CAMON 40 Pro 5G has an 8GB RAM variant that’s priced very close to the NOTE 50 Pro.
Both have a 5200mAh battery, but the NOTE 50 Pro has better charging speeds at 90w, along with support for 30w wireless charging.
Price
The NOTE 50 Pro is priced at Php 11,999, while the CAMON 40 Pro 5G is priced at Php 12,999 for the 8GB/256GB model and Php 14,999 for the 12GB/256GB model. While it may appear that the CAMON 40 Pro 5G, the NOTE 40 Pro has its fair share of advantages.
