Canon Announces Development of the EOS R5

The EOS R everyone is waiting for

As Canon continues to expand its EOS R line, the Japanese camera brand announced that it is working on a third EOS R body with the EOS R5. Slotting above the original EOS R, the EOS R5 is the brand’s first true professional, full-frame mirrorless camera with up to 20FPS shooting speed using the electronic shutter (up to 12FPS using the mechanical shutter).

Making this EOS R5 a landmark camera for Canon is that it comes with in-body image stabilization—for the longest time, Canon has limited image stabilization to its lenses, and adding image stabilization to its camera bodies shows that the brand wants to keep up with competitors like Fujifilm and Sony. Other key features of the EOS R5 include 8K video recording and dual SD card slots—both being firsts for the EOS R line.

Aside from the EOS R5 announcement, Canon said it is working on several RF lenses and RF teleconverters that include the RF 100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM, Extender RF 1.4x and Extender RF 2x.
