Cherry Mobile Zoom Unboxing And First Impressions: Destined To Last?

Cherry Mobile Zoom 08
If there’s one thing that most people prioritize nowadays in their phones, its battery. More and more people are clamoring for devices that can go the distance, and are willing to pay extra for the privilage. Cherry Mobile knows this all too well – they’ve started to come out with devices that have big batteries inside of them, and the Zoom is no exception. Today we’ll be unboxing the Zoom and show you what this budget, big-batteried phone is capable of.

Cherry Mobile Zoom specs:

Packaging and contents:

If you’ve seen our other Cherry Mobile unboxings before, you already have a good idea on what to expect with the Zoom.

The phone comes in a black box with a contrasting orange back. Just like Cherry Mobile’s other offerings, the Zoom comes with a USB cable, 5V/2A fast charger and a pair of headphones.

Initial Impressions: 4000mAh battery and loads of RAM

The Cherry Mobile Zoom has two tricks up its sleeve: it has a large battery (around 4000mAh worth) and has 3GB of RAM. That’s more RAM than most other devices in its price range, though that comes at a steep cost that we’ll be getting into later. Anyway, the Zoom is completely made out of plastic, which isn’t surprising considering its price, and has a curved design that allows you to get a grip on its chunky frame.

And boy is it chunky. That’s probably because of the large, non-removable battery on the rear that’s accessible via the removable back. Speaking of the back, it’s made to look like brushed aluminum, though in reality the rear shell is simply made from plastic to keep costs down.

Cherry Mobile’s separated the volume and power button on the Zoom, with the former being on the left while the latter is on the right. The USB port and the 3.5mm jack are at their usual spots, namely on the bottom and top, respectively.

The phone uses a 5-inch HD IPS display surrounded by rather thick bezels. The phone uses on-screen navigation buttons.

The phone uses MediaTek’s MT6735P quad-core processor running at just 1GHz, paired with 3GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage. To be honest the phone’s performance isn’t going to wow anybody, though that also means that the phone is very efficient in terms of battery use. You can potentially squeeze days of battery performance out of the Zoom, though at the expense of reduced number crunching capabilities.

That’s it for our hands-on of the Zoom. Cherry Mobile is pricing the device at Php 4,999. It’d be interesting to see just how far the Zoom goes in our PCMark Battery benchmark test later this week.
