First Shots: Huawei Nova 3

The Nova’s Four Cam Setup Gets An Upgrade

Huawei was one of the first — if not the first — brand to jump from having just three cameras on a smartphone (dual rear cameras plus a selfie shooter) and have their mid-range winner of 2017 a total of four cameras. While this year’s Nova follows in the tradition of its predecessor, their budget flagship gets a bit of an upgrade by borrowing from its siblings in the P series and Mate series — a monochrome camera at 24-megapixels with an aperture of f/1.8 to go along with the main 16MP main rear camera.

While we haven’t had the device for very long, we’ve managed to take a couple of snaps to share with you guys to give you an idea what they’re capable of.

Nice, vibrant colors with the 16MP main cam with AI turned ON
Testing out the software-assisted bokeh on the Nova 3.
The monochrome cam in action.
Yet another B/W photo from the 24MP monochrome cam.
Nice, smooth bokeh from the front cameras. A bit on the cool side in terms of White Balance.
Indoor selfie with AI ON. Studio lights are on as well.

We’ll be taking more photos to show you guys what the cameras on the Nova 3 are really capable of and maybe even see how it stacks up against some of its competition in the market.
