An oxymoron, for sure

Google’s Android One initiative is well known to many pinoys – an attempt to bring the purest version of Android to the masses via affordable handsets, kind of like the Nexus program for penny pinchers. Imagine our surprise then, to find out a phone from General Mobile, dubbed the GM 5 Plus, that has high-end hardware and is part of the Android One initiative.

General Mobile GM 5 Plus

While many people may find the Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 hardly a high-end processor, when you compare it to the lower spec SoCs that usually populate the ranks of other Android One devices then you might think otherwise. And the GM 5 Plus doesn’t stop there – it has a USB Type-C port, 32GB of storage, 3GB of RAM and a 5.5-inch, full HD display with Corning Gorilla Glass 4, along with Marshmallow and guaranteed updates up to two years, thanks to the device being part of the Android One initiative.

The GM 5 Plus will be priced at $300 or around 14.2K in our currency.
