OPPO Doubles Down on AI with the Global Reno12 Series

After being teased last week, OPPO made the Global Reno12 series official in Europe, with both phones doubling down on AI.

The standard Reno12 and Reno12 Pro are identical with most features: they both use a new Dimensity 7300 processor, which has been optimized for better power efficiency by both MediaTek and OPPO. Both come with 12GB LPDDR4X RAM, along with MicroSD card expansion and a 6.7-inch 120hz curved OLED display with a peak brightness of 1200nits.

Both models also get a 50-megapixel LYT600 main camera with OIS and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera, along with a 5000mAh battery that supports 80w SuperVOOC charging and 55w USB-PD charging. However, you don’t get a charger in the box, which is a rare move from OPPO. Both phones also get an IP65 rating and stereo speakers as well.

Going to the differences, the Reno12 Pro adds a 50-megapixel ISOCELL JN5 sensor for both the 2x telephoto and selfie cameras–the latter having autofocus and support for 4K video recording, along with Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection and fast 512GB UFS 3.1 storage.

The standard Reno12, on the other hand, comes with a 2-megapixel filler camera, a 32-megapixel selfie camera with autofocus, Gorilla Glass 7i protection, and 256GB UFS 2.2 storage.

The main selling point for both phones are its AI features. Some of these include AI Clear Face for enhancing hair, eyebrows, and facial contour, AI Best Face to avoid taking shots of people with their eyes closed, and an improved AI Eraser. AI is also utilized for text and speech as well, where it leverages on Google’s Gemini Model, while the Recorder app now creates text summaries of your recordings and organizes them into notes with key info.

BeaconLink

There’s also a unique feature called BeaconLink, which essentially turns the Reno12 into a walkie-talkie by allowing voice calls without cellular coverage at up to 200 meters via a proprietary Bluetooth connection.

In Europe, the Global OPPO Reno12 series is priced art 500 Euros(~Php 32k), while the Reno12 Pro is priced at 600 Euros(~Php 38k). Both phones will be arriving in the Philippines on July 12, and expect their official pricing to be much lower than European prices.
