Global vivo Y55s 5G 2023 has Smaller 5000mAh battery

After appearing in China, vivo announced a global version of the Y55s 5G in 2023 with a few differences.

vivo does have a penchant for confusing its consumers with how it names its phones. While the Y55s came out in 2017, its modern, 5G-ready version came out in 2021–though that one is exclusive to China. Fast forward to 2023, vivo makes the Y55s 5G available for global markets starting with Taiwan–and only has a few differences with the 2021 China version.

Even if they look similar, the global Y55s 5G “only” comes with a 5000mAh battery, which makes us wonder why vivo didn’t use the 6000mAh cell found on the China-only model. Aside from that, the global Y55s 5G only comes with up to 6GB RAM (the China model comes with 8GB RAM). Despite the battery difference, the global Y55s 5G still supports 18w charging.

Aside from those differences, you still get a Dimensity 700 processor that’s paired with 128GB RAM, along with a Full HD+ display that has a dated notch for the 8-megapixel selfie shooter. Its triple rear camera setup consists of a 50-megapixel main camera and a pair of 2-megapixel cameras–one for depth sensing and the other for macro.

The vivo Y55s 5G 2023 is spotted in Taiwan, and starts at NTD 7,990 for the 4GB version, which is around Php 14.5k when converted. The 6GB version is priced at NTD 8,490 or around Php 15.5k. It remains to be seen if vivo will bring this to the Philippines–but if they do, this is expected to replace the Y76 5G for vivo’s 2023 lineup of 5G phones.
