Review verdict: HONOR’s done it again with their new flagship, the Magic7 Pro. The phone’s incredible cameras, crazy-long battery life, and dominant performance make it one of the best Android flagships you can buy so far this year.
Pros
- Crazy long battery life
- Fantastic cameras
- Great performance
- Tough as nails
Cons
- A little thick in the hands
- Software needs work
With how often you see HONOR phones being tossed around, you might have forgotten that they also have high-end flagship phones. This is the HONOR Magic7 Pro, and it will blow your mind. The processor is incredibly powerful, the photos are beautiful, and the battery is robust – could this be the phone that beats the Galaxy S25?
HONOR Magic7 Pro Review Philippines: Design
The Magic7 Pro feels very nice to hold. The phone uses the same design language as most flagships nowadays, specifically, flat sides and a boxier exterior. The phone’s rear is still dominated by a massive camera module that holds the cameras, but it’s a little smaller this time around.
If you’ve used a top-shelf Android phone at all in the past few months, the look and feel of the Magic7 Pro feels familiar. It feels nice to hold, and it’s obvious that HONOR didn’t skimp on the production of this phone. Its ergonomics are perfect for my hand, though it might feel large for others who are more used to small phones.
Like other flagships today, the central camera module of the HONOR Magic7 Pro is somewhat large, although it’s a bit thinner compared to last year. And since this is a flagship phone, it gets all the high-end features like IP68 rating, wireless fast charging, and premium materials for the body.
HONOR Magic7 Pro Review Philippines: Display
The display on the HONOR Magic7 Pro is top-notch. It’s a 6.8-inch quad-curved 120Hz OLED panel with 5000 nits of brightness, which means even if the sun is directly on the display, you can still see it clearly.
The phone’s display is still curved, but it’s more subtle now and not as aggressive as before. This display also has NanoCrystal Shield glass protection, which makes it extremely resilient to scratches and gives it protection against usual drops and spills. It’s as tough as the brand’s other phones like the X9c when it comes to accidental drops.
I also have to point out that the speakers on the Magic7 Pro are the loudest I’ve heard on a smartphone yet. You do lose a bit of definition on the highest setting, but that’s more than made up by the sheer volume put out. I was also surprised at how well the phone produced bass for tracks like K-dot’s squabble up and tv off.
HONOR Magic7 Pro Review Philippines: Cameras
The main appeal of the HONOR Magic7 Pro is its cameras. It has a 50-megapixel main camera with an adjustable aperture from f/1.4 to f/2.0, a 200-megapixel 3x telephoto lens, and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens.
The main camera of the HONOR Magic7 Pro takes beautiful photos. The detail is solid with fantastic colors that look vibrant and poppy. Its dynamic range definition is also excellent, and even in low-light shots, the photo results are still very good.
I’ve noticed that I often take photos using the telephoto lens of phones that I use, so the 200-megapixel 3x telephoto camera of the Magic7 Pro is very useful. Like the main camera, the telephoto has good dynamic range and colors, but I noticed some sharpening issues when shooting using this camera because the AI upscaling is a bit aggressive in some photos. The AI upscaling is useful when you’re shooting more distant subjects because the shot becomes more well-defined, but when you’re shooting closer subjects, it’s more of a detriment than a benefit.
Wide-angle photos also have very good color and exposure, but I feel a bit lacking in detail, especially in low light.
Overall, this phone takes good photos, but there are times when its shots are inconsistent. I hope HONOR fixes this with a software update.
HONOR Magic7 Pro Review Philippines: Performance, software, and battery
When it comes to overall performance, you won’t have any complaints with this phone. The phone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and has 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.
The games I used on this phone were no match for it, as the phone was able to handle all of them without any issues whatsoever, even with the quality settings maxed out. Playing games on this phone is a lot of fun – and since HONOR put in powerful and high-quality speakers, you’ll feel like you’re using a top-tier handheld gaming console while playing. The only thing missing are game controllers.
If there’s something I don’t like in the Magic7 Pro, it’s the software. MagicOS still looks too much like EMUI and the brand has still not made any strides to try and separate the look of its software from its previous mother company. As a result, the UI seems dated and underwhelming. The good news is that you’re getting 7 years of Android and security updates with the Magic7 Pro–good news if you’re looking to keep this phone for a while.
The battery in this phone is large–5850mAh. That, combined with the very power-efficient Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, meant that the phone clocked in almost two days of battery life with moderate use. The battery endurance of this phone is incredible. Add to that the 100W fast charging and 80W fast wireless charging, and you’ll feel like you’ll never run out of battery when using it.
HONOR Magic7 Pro Review Philippines: Wrap-up and Conclusions
The HONOR Magic7 Pro is great, and there’s very little to complain about in this phone. If I were to nitpick, I’m not in love with the overall thickness and size of it, but that’s a tiny complaint in what’s otherwise a very, very good flagship.
The only question that remains is price and availability. Considering that HONOR just took me and a bunch of other tech writers to Beijing, China recently to showcase the phone’s camera capabilities, it’s a sure bet that the phone’s destined for Philippine shores. The only question now is the price–I have no doubt it’ll be on the same level as recent flagship offerings from OPPO, Samsung, and other high-end Android manufacturers. It seems high, but it’s worth it considering all the things you get from the phone.
