Will this make its way to the PH?

Huawei has officially unveiled its new Honor V8 smartphone. If you’re not familiar, the Honor sub-brand is Huawei’s attempt to combat the online-only efforts of Lenovo, Xiaomi, Meizu and other domestic rivals in China. Anyway, the V8 is the second phone in the sub-brand to sport a dual-camera lens, though curiously it comes after Huawei’s high-profile launch of another dual-camera equipped smartphone co-engineered with German camera legend Leica.

No such branding is present on the V8, though curiously it looks to sport the same 12-megapixel, 6-element, f/2.2 aperture lenses as the P9. It also has a laser AF as well and a 8-megapixel f/2.4 lens front camera as well.

Huawei’s finally accepting importance of quad-HD displays in luring in consumers, as the V8 has a QHD 5.7-inch display – a first for the sub-brand and the second for Huawei. There’s also a full HD version of the device as well, and both variants use IPS panels with 2.5D glass layered on top.

The V8 comes with Huawei’s home-grown SoC, the Kirin 950, which is an octa-core processor with 4GB of RAM. The QHD version of the phone has 64GB of storage, while the full HD version only comes with 32GB. The phone has a full metal body, a fingerprint scanner at the back, a thin frame that measures just 7.75mm. A 3,500mAh battery provides the juice for the device, and the V8 uses a USB Type-C connector.

As far as pricing goes the full HD version of the Honor V8 is priced at RMB 2,299 (Php 16.4K), with the higher end, QHD spec’d version retails for RMB 2,799 (Php 20K). There’s no word if the Honor V8 will ever arrive here in the PH but if it does, it’ll likely sport another name thanks to Huawei’s new strategy regarding their sub-brand.
