Omega Spectrum confirmed to use Broadcom processor!

Cherry Mobile has revealed more details about their upcoming budget quad-core smartphone, the Omega Spectrum, including a press shot of sorts showing the device’s entire body. It looks like one of the guesses of our commenters was right in regards to the chipset used – the Omega Spectrum sports a Broadcom BCM 23550 quad-core processor, similar to the one present in the Starmobile Navi and Cherry Mobile’s own Sonic 2.0.

As far as performance is concerned, Broadcom’s BCM 23550 processor is capable enough, although it’s not as powerful as the MT6582M processor in the MyPhone Rio, which is obviously the smartphone that the Omega Spectrum is going after based on its pricepoint. If you take a look at our benchmark results using the processor in both the Starmobile Navi and the Sonic 2.0, the AnTuTu scores never came above 14K for both, and that’s with the WVGA displays on both the devices. Performance scores in synthetic benchmarks tend to go down as the resolution goes up when using the same processor- hopefully the Omega Spectrum can handle the higher display resolution without sacrificing the user experience.
