Clever software trickery makes 50MP photos possible

While not everyone knows who Guangdong based Oppo is, their newest creation is quickly making people remember their name. The Oppo Find 7 is possibly the first smartphone in the world that’s able to take 50-megapixel photos. Yes, that’s not a typo – the Find 7 can take 50-megapixel photos, though it doesn’t have a 50-megapixel sensor. If you’re scratching your head thinking how the company managed to pull that off, well, you’re not the only one.

Oppo Find 7 Specs

The Find 7 manages to pull off 50-megapixel photos using software trickery. The Find 7 is equipped with Oppo’s image signal processor dubbed Pure Image 2.0, which takes 10 consecutive shots of your subject, picks the four best ones and then combines them into a 50-megapixel image. Aside from the camera, the Find 7 looks to be a beast of a phone, sporting Qualcomm’s latest processor the Snapdragon 801, 3GB of RAM 32GB of storage and a quad-HD display. If you haven’t guessed by now, the Find 7 won’t be cheap – it will hit retail at around $699 which translates to Php 31629 without taxes or duties, but we’re sure that people who want a camera that can take as detailed photos as possible will put up with its steep price.
