OPPO Shows Off Waterfall Screen With Nearly 90 Degree Edge

With extremely thin bezels to boot

While curved displays aren’t new, the ones in high-profile flagship phones nowadays have gentle slopes instead of sudden drop-offs because of technological limitations. But OPPO has found a way to produce a curved display that has an almost 90-degree angle.

Dubbed the “Waterfall display”, the new tech allows the company to put an 88-degree curved edge on the side of a phone, as well as tiny, tiny bezels on the top and bottom of the phone.

The tech was shown off by OPPO’s Vice President Shen Yiren on Weibo in a prototype smartphone, which curiously also did not have any visible front-facing camera.

Thanks to the new display tech and extremely thin bezels, the phone has a nearly 100% screen-to-body ratio, giving the phone a greater than 19.5:9 aspect ratio.

There’s no solid information yet when phones with this tech will show up in OPPO’s devices, but we wouldn’t be surprised if a flagship with a Waterfall display shows up next year.
