Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 215 Chip Brings Mid-range Features To Entry-level Phones

It’s still built on the old 28nm process though

Budget phones are about to get mid-range features, thanks to Qualcomm’s newly announced Snapdragon 215 chipset. The new SoC will finally allow stuff like longer aspect ratios and dual-camera support to pop up on sub-Php 5K phones, though the biggest breakthrough here is the use of 64-bit architecture, the first in a 200-series chipset.

The shift to 64-bit allows the Snapdragon 215 to run 50 percent faster than the 210. Other features include support for the 19.9:9 aspect ratio and HD+ (1,560 x 720), dual image signal processors for dual cameras, and up to 13-megapixel non-interpolated capture, along with 1080p recording.

While these features have long been a staple of mid-range phones, they’ve been severely lacking on entry-level models. The new Snapdragon 215 has a faster Adreno 308 GPU on board for light graphics work and more power-efficient video playback.

The new chip also has support for NFC, as well as dual SIM VoLTE calls, and up to 150Mbps download speeds and 802.11ac WiFi support.
