Rumor: HTC Updating the U Play with a Snapdragon 660

Rumor: HTC Updating the U Play with a Snapdragon 660

Is HTC Giving Their Mid-Ranged Phone a Boost?

HTC just recently made its return to the Philippines, bringing device like the: HTC U Ultra, HTC U Play, and we should be seeing the HTC U 11 this month too. While flagship devices get a lot hype and attention, we all know that most of smartphone sales come from the mid-ranged segment. Sadly, we thought the U Play was a little lacking in the hardware department, which makes this rumor making its rounds online pretty interesting. HTC is said to be releasing a Snapdragon 660-equipped smartphone. Codename: Ocean Life.

HTC Ocean Life Rumored Specs

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor
  • 5.2-inch Full HD display; 1920×1080 resolution
  • 16-megapixel rear camera
  • 16-megapixel front camera
  • Bluetooth v5.0
  • 2600mAh battery
  • Android 7.1.1

Yes, we realize that the spec sheet needs a bit of filling in but, remember, this is just a rumor going around online. From what we can see though, it’s pretty much what the HTC U Play is packing; except running the show will be Qualcomm’s new top-tied, mid-ranged SoC. Given its processor, we would be pretty bummed out if the “Ocean Life” doesn’t come with at least 4GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage. The device is also said to have HTC’s Edge Sense, so you can also give it a squeeze to launch apps on your phone.

If this device does come to light, expect to arrive towards the end of the year; along with every other Snapdragon 660-equipped smartphones.
