Samsung Creates New Tech That Doubles Current Battery Life

Longer lasting batteries thanks to Samsung

We’ve all had our own experience of a battery running out when we need our phone the most, but if Samsung is to be believed, we may have a solution to our current battery woes soon. The Korean company has developed lithium-ion battery tech that has the potential to double your phone’s current battery capacity.

The tech uses silicon anode with layers of graphene grown on top of it, which allows their battery packs to become 1.5 to 1.8 times denser than current batteries. Denser battery packs mean more juice held inside of them. That means that Galaxy S6 that somehow struggles to get through the day would potentially be able to go two days without needing to be charged.

Of course, there is a caveat. The tech is nowhere near mature enough to show up in upcoming smartphones in the next year or so, and it will take a few more years for Samsung’s research to show up in consumer products. Probably in the next four or five years, we’ll finally see phones that have 4000mAh or 6000mAh batteries standard without looking like relics of 1999, but for now, you’ll just have to settle for a power bank.
