Samsung’s Z2 on Tizen OS to be Unveiled on August 23

Samsung Z2 Features and Specs

According to a report by PhoneArena, Samsung is set to unveil their newest Tizen-powered smartphone, the Samsung Z2, in an event in India on August 23. The folks at SamMobile have recently leaked a video showcasing the specs of the upcoming budget phone.

For those unfamiliar with the Tizen operating system, it’s basically Samsung’s homegrown OS, developed as a competitor to other smartphone OSes like Android. Some also see it as Samsung’s means to future-proof its products with a more in-house flair, as an alternative to following the whims of Google’s Android OS.

The Z2, based on earlier leaked specs, is definitely an entry-level smartphone. There’s still no word on Samsung’s official pricing for the device.

The 1GB RAM specs look somewhat underwhelming, but Tizen fans assure that 1GB RAM on Tizen is significantly different from the 1GB Android device experience.

Details are sparse, but we’ll see the bigger picture once the Samsung Z2 is officially presented in India soon.

As for an Asian launch? Considering Samsung hasn’t released their earlier Tizen products Z1 and Z3, we’re not quite sure if the Z2 is slated for the region. Third time’s a charm, maybe?
