There’s no question about how powerful the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is despite being a generation old: we’ve run gaming tests with the POCO F6 Pro, and our tests prove that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 can run all of the most demanding mobile games in the market–including newer titles like Wuthering Waves.Â
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2’s GPU performance is equivalent to roughly a GTX 1050, so it’s possible to run PC games on any Android phone running a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 (or newer) using a tool called Mobox. This tool has everything you need to run PC games on an Android phone.
To illustrate how powerful the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is, RGBTech ran Cyberpunk 2077 on the base Galaxy S23, which has a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor that’s paired with 8GB LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB UFS 4.0 storage. Check out the gameplay footage below:
How did Cyberpunk 2077 perform? While it’s not the smoothest experience even with all the graphics settings set to the lowest possible, it is amazing that a mobile processor can run what is deemed to be one of the most demanding PC games in the market.Â
If you want a smoother experience, a test done by Geekerwan using the ROG Phone 8 Pro–a phone that uses the newer Snapdragon 8 Gen 3–showed a slightly better gameplay of Cyberpunk 2077. Geekwerwan also noted that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has roughly the same CPU performance as a Core i5-10400, which shows that Qualcomm has come a long way with its ARM-based Snapdragon processors when compared to x86 processors.
With Qualcomm entering the PC space with its Snapdragon X series processors, we think that ARM processors have the necessary muscle to run x86-based apps and games–provided that there’s proper optimization.Â
