Sony’s new point and shoot is a monster

We’ve said before that point-and-shoots are dead. Well, not quite – Sony’s line of RX100 cameras are still alive and kicking and have a cult following, thanks to its small size and almost DSLR-like shooting capabilities. The RX100 is now in its fourth iteration in the form of the RX100IV, and Sony has really held nothing back in the new camera.

For one thing, the RX100 IV has the world’s first 1-inch stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor with 21-megapixels, advanced signal processing and attached DRAM memory chip which allows for 5x faster image readout, along with other features.

Externally, not a lot has changed with the RX100 IV externally compared to its predecessor. It still has a 24-70mm f/1.8 lens without adding the extra bulk. But that small camera is now capable of shooting with shutter speeds as fast as 1/32,000th of a second, can take 4K video has a myriad of slow-motion capabilities – you can capture 1280 x 800 resolution videos at 960 frames per second, HD video at 480 frames a second and full HD video at 240 frames per second. It’s also capable of shooting 4K video though recording time is limited to around 5 minutes. The RX100 IV is also capable of high-speed burst shooting of 16 frames per second if needed. Much like Sony’s other cameras, the RX100 IV has NFC and WiFi connectivity on board.

If you’ve preparing yourself for the price, well, we have bad news for you. Sony is putting the price on this beauty at $1000, or around Php 44961. That’s a steep price for a point-and-shoot for sure, but it’s safe to say that nothing else comes close to the RX100 IV.
