This is Microsoft’s first notebook, and it’s glorious
Microsoft has finally, officially announced the Surface Book, the company’s first ever notebook, set to compete with Apple’s Macbook Pro. A cross between a hybrid PC and Lenovo’s Yoga line of PCs, the Surface Book is a hybrid PC like you’ve never seen before.
At its core, the Surface Book is a bonafide notebook, sporting Intel’s sixth-generation Core processor, up to 16GB of GDDR5 RAM and a 12-hour battery life. Just like all Surface-branded devices, the Surface book can be detached from the dock, allowing you to use the 13.5-inch, 3000 x 2000 resolution display (that’s 267 pixels per inch) as a tablet if you so please.
The keyboard dock that it connects to isn’t just a plain keyboard dock too – it houses an extra battery and an optional NVIDIA GPU. That particular hardware config gives it comparable horsepower to Apple’s MacBook Pro, and is powerful enough (with the optional GPU) to run games and edit photos and videos. The Surface Book is also capable of carrying up to 512GB of storage.
Now the bad news: At $1,499 (Php 69K) for the base config (Sixth-gen Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM and 128GB storage) the Surface Book is not cheap. Higher configurations will also throughly ravage your wallet, with the highest model (Core i7 processor, 16GB of RAM, 512GB of storage and discrete graphics) going for $2699 (Php 125.2K).
