Shenzhen, China is a destination that’s known to be “Asia’s Silicon Valley”, as it is the home of a number of well-known tech brands. Beyond its reputation, there are a few places in Shenzhen that’s worth visiting if you’re a tourist–and we took the vivo Y100 around these places to showcase what its cameras are capable of.

We started our day by waking up at around 7AM. Our vivo Y100’s battery is running low, but that’s not an issue with its support for 80w charging. We plugged the Y100 to the charger, went down from our hotel room for breakfast, and came back 40 minutes later with the Y100’s 5000mAh battery fully charged and ready for a whole day of exploring Shenzhen.
Street Shooting at Dafen Oil Painting Village
Known as the “World’s Art Factory“, Dafen is an urban village in Shenzhen, where you can appreciate and buy various oil paintings. The quaint village if far from the usual high-rise buildings in Shenzhen, and is a place worth visiting to see how art is produced on an industrial scale–to the extent of some artists having an assembly line-like system on creating their art pieces.
Aside from all the painting’s you’d spot in Dafen, its alleyways are worth taking street photos, as it depicts Shenzhen in the 80s and 90s. The Y100 has a 2x digital zoom with its 50-megapixel main camera to take photos up close and see more details amidst these intriguing alleyways.
Climb the Skies at Ping An Finance Center
Shenzhen is home to the fifth tallest building in the world with the Ping An Finance Center. With a height of 599.1 meters and having 115 floors above ground (and 5 floors below), the Ping An Finance Center is a towering skyscraper at the center of Shenzhen. The building is so tall, it’s not surprising to see clouds envelope the very top of Ping An Finance Center.
Aside from admiring the Ping An Finance Center from afar, you should visit the Free Sky Observatory at the 116th floor, where you get a 360-degree view of Shenzhen. It was cloudy during the time we visited the observatory deck, but the Y100 was able to take decent photos of the sprawling Shenzhen landscape through the observatory deck’s enormous windows.
Appreciate Chinese Culture at Splendid China Folk Village
If you want to appreciate and understand Chinese culture, Splendid China Folk Village is a must-visit for your trip to Shenzhen. This theme park has all of China’s iconic places like the Great Wall of China made in a smaller scale, and showcases the different cultures in China. Aside from all of the sightseeing, Splendid China Folk Village also has a theater performance that showcases some key moments in China’s history.
The sights of Splendid China Folk Village are vibrant and full of color, and the Y100 captured them well with plenty of detail and good color accuracy–all thanks to vivo’s constant improvement of its camera software even with its entry-level Y series phones.
As we capped off the day at around 9PM, we still have around 40% of battery life on the Y100, which can still last us for half a day before we need to charge it. After all, we got a battery life of 17 hours and 36 minutes with the Y100 on PCMark, which is solid proof that you can use it for taking a lot of photos and videos (and storing it into its 256GB internal storage that’s expandable), and still have lots of juice to spare for the next day. Pair that with a fast 80w charging solution, and topping up the Y100’s battery is a quick and easy task.Â
Of course, we can’t help but check all the photos and videos we took while exploring Shenzhen, and that’s where we appreciate the Y100’s 120hz AMOLED display: aside from the bright and vibrant colors that are usual for AMOLED displays, the Y100’s panel has a high brightness of 1200nits, making it easy to double check your photos and videos even under direct sunlight.Â
The vivo Y100 starts at Php 12,499 for the 8GB/128GB variant, and is available in vivo’s Website, Lazada, Shopee, and TikTok.
