While HONOR may have the bragging rights of having the slimmest foldable phone in the market, Xiaomi is catching up nicely with their MIX Fold 4. Their latest foldable has a thickness of 9.47mm, making it significantly slimmer than the MIX Fold 3. Aside from being thinner, Xiaomi finally added an IPx8 rating to the MIX Fold 4, making it safe against water splashes.
Making the MIX Fold 4’s build unique is that the hinge floating plate, display backing plate, and middle plate battery compartment are all precision-molded from T800H carbon fiber material, which enhances overall strength and durability while reducing weight considerably. The mid-frame is made from 6M42 aluminum alloy, while the hinge uses 1800MPa ultra-strong steel. As for the motherboard, its three-layer, five-surface design allowed Xiaomi to put a 5100mAh battery inside the MIX Fold 4’s slim body.
While it may not be as thin as the Magic V3, Xiaomi retained the Leica-branded quad camera setup on the Mix Fold 4 and still has the bragging rights of arguably one of the most versatile setups on a foldable device. To recap, that consists of a 50-megapixel Light Fusion main camera with OIS, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera, and two 50-megapixel telephoto cameras: one being a periscope unit with 5x optical zoom and one having a more conventional layout with 3.2x optical zoom.
The MIX Fold 4 is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor and supports 67w wired and 50w wireless charging and 2-way satellite communication. You also get four industry-leading low-frequency receiving antennas and four Xiaomi Surge T1 signal enhancement chips to enhance the MIX Fold 4’s connectivity.
For its displays, the inner display features a 7.98-inch Samsung E7 LTPO panel with 2488×2244 resolution, 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and support for HDR10+, while the outer display is a 6.56-inch C8+ panel with a 2520×1080 resolution, 120Hz refresh rate and a P3 color gamut. The inner display uses advanced Pol-less Plus technology, for better brightness and color performance while reducing power consumption.
