As the majority of us depend on our computer’s webcam for video calls, Zoom conferences, and live streams, there are some who want to level up their webcam game by using a higher-resolution webcam or even their own digital camera. Following Sony and Fujifilm’s move of introducing software to enable their digital cameras to work as webcams, Canon has made its EOS Webcam Utility software official after being in beta for several months.
The official software, which is available for Windows (Mac users need to wait a little longer), now lets you use select EOS and Powershot cameras as a webcam for popular platforms like Zoom, Skype, Microsoft Teams, Cisco Webex, Google Meet, Google Hangouts, Facebook Messenger and Live, YouTube Live, Discord, Streamlabs, Slack, and Open Broadcaster.
Aside from allowing you to use your EOS or Powershot camera as a webcam, the software can let you record your video conference and stream in high quality in case you will need the footage for content creation purposes. Using the software lets you use your Canon camera’s features like Eye Detection AF (on select models) and superior low-light capabilities.
Canon cameras that are compatible with EOS Webcam Utility include the recently-released EOS R5 and R6 and 40 other Canon cameras. Here’s a rundown:
