With the 2025 Elections coming very soon, GCash announced that their transaction limits will be imposed until May 12 to curb vote buying. This is different from GCash’s updated transaction limits that will take effect on May 10.
Until Election Day (May 12), GCash will limit daily “Send Money” transactions, which also covers “Express Send” and “Send via QR”. Normal transactions resume on May 13. This move aligns with COMELEC’s Resolution 11104, which targets illegal financial activities like vote buying and vote selling during the election period.
“Ang mga hakbang na ito ay para sa patas at ligtas na halalan. Sa pagpigil sa financial influence sa boto ng mga tao, masisigurong tunay na boses ng mamamayan ang resulta ng eleksyon,” GCash said in an advisory.
Under its updated limits, GCash users can only send money 550 times and receive money 500 times per month. This is under GCash’s fair use program in compliance with the Anti-Financial Account Scamming Law. Aside from the transaction limits, GCash Chief Risk Officer Ingrid Beroña told Teleradyo Serbisyo last March that the team monitors for any suspicious activity that could be related to vote buying. Beroña added that this is the third elections that they imposed such limits.
