Samsung is back this year with its next-generation Galaxy Z Fold4, and its foldable phone has some competition to deal with–one of them being Huawei’s own Mate Xs 2. Both are foldable phones that offer flagship-grade internals and cutting-edge tech with how their foldable display is designed.
While the Galaxy Z Fold4 feels almost similar to its predecessor save for a few tweaks in its dimensions, does Samsung still reign in the foldable phone segment against the Mate Xs 2?

Design
While Huawei intends to be different from the crowd with the outward folding design of the Mate Xs2, the inward folding design of the Galaxy Z Fold4 is more practical, as it protects the delicate flexible AMOLED screen from the elements. The design of the Galaxy Z Fold4 allows you to use it as a regular phone with its 6.2-inch 120hz AMOLED outer display.
Display
Both phones feature a flexible AMOLED display with a 120hz refresh rate, though the Mate Xs 2’s panel is slightly bigger at 7.8-inches (vs. 7.6-inches on the Galaxy Z Fold4). While the Mate Xs 2 settles for a punch-hole for its selfie shooter, the Galaxy Z Fold4 continues to use an under-display camera to keep the large display seamless.
The Mate Xs 2’s foldable display has a close-to-square aspect ratio, and Samsung took notes of that with the Galaxy Z Fold4, tweaking the foldable phone to be shorter and wider so that it also has a close-to-square aspect ratio as well.
Cameras
Samsung is finally giving a high-resolution sensor to the main camera of the Galaxy Z Fold4, making it compete toe-to-toe with the Mate Xs 2’s 50-megapixel main camera. The Galaxy Z Fold4 adds OIS to its new main camera, making it better than the Mate Xs 2 on paper.
Both phones are pretty much on even ground with the ultra-wide-angle camera and selfie camera (the Galaxy Z Fold4 has two selfie shooters–the other being the 10-megapixel shooter housed in a punch-hole on the outer display), and both have a telephoto camera. The Mate Xs 2 has an 8-megapixel snapper with 3x optical zoom and OIS, while the Galaxy Z Fold4 uses a higher-resolution 10-megapixel shooter with 3x optical zoom.
Both foldable phones have a good set of camera features that include being able to shoot 4K video at up to 60FPS.
Internals and battery
The Galaxy Z Fold4 goes all-in with its use of a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor that’s paired with up to 12GB LPDDR5X RAM and up to as much as 1TB of internal storage. Those alone make the Galaxy Z Fold4 superior over the Mate Xs 2.
However, Samsung uses the same 4400mAh battery on the Galaxy Z Fold4 and 25w wired and 15w wireless charging support. That means that the Mate Xs 2 is slightly better with its 4600mAh battery and support for fast 66w wired charging.
Price
The Mate Xs 2 is priced at Php 99,999 for the 8GB/512GB variant in the Philippines, while the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 is priced at Php 98,990 for the 256GB model, Php 105,990 for the 512GB model, and Php 119,990 for the 1TB model. The Galaxy Z Fold4’s pricing is pretty competitive, and it seems that Samsung’s confident enough to still be the king in the foldable phone segment.
