Experimental App Aims to Better Low-light Photography for Smartphones

Bridging the gap between DSLR and smartphone photography

As good as the cameras on smartphones have become, they’re still a long way from giving us the quality of DSLR shooters when lighting conditions go south. Challenged by a colleague, Florian Kainz — a researcher at Google, created an experimental app that could help bridge the gap; somewhat at least. Here’s how his app works:

The image you see above is actually a result of the said experimental app and it ain’t half bad. The app can compensate for handshakes as well, but forget about taking a photo of objects that move too fast.

As we mentioned this app hasn’t been taken to market just yet, but we sure hope it does.
